The benefits of sustainable landscape architecture is becoming more
evident in the streets and hills of San Pancho San Francisco Nayarit
Mexico, as the residents are moving in a direction to become an
exemplary model in preserving their environment, especially for the
future generations to come.
A consciousness seems to be spreading throughout the area besides
that of the yoga practiced ...
similar to that of many towns in the US, like
Westcliffe Colorado,
with it's own
sustainable
ways community, San Pancho seems to be developing a
collective attitude of the importance of designing, building
and landscaping in an environmentally responsible fashion.
Las
Mariposa's has set an example for many. It is one of the newer
developments and it consists of land which once was the local
dumping grounds. The land was cleaned and divided into eight lots,
with the intent of creating a development dedicated to respecting
the peace and harmony of the land and the people.
Elsa Catherine is adamant about protecting the environment of
San Pancho, where she now resides, as well as the rest of the
planet. She has become an advocate for the
benefits of
sustainable landscape architecture, by educating the people of
the community of San Pancho on building with alternative energy
sources, as well as living in harmony day to day in a
sustainable way.
Elsa has made one of her goals to help educate the people of San
Pancho and the surrounding areas of Sayulita,
Bucerias and
Puerto
Vallarta in many alternative ways of building and living.
Elsa says..." After working many years in the
fashion world, I decided to leave my home in Paris, to travel on a
sail boat in Polynesia . In this new space, I learned something
fundamental, of which I had not truly been aware before: the
environment, our planet is in danger.
The temperature of the South Seas is rising at an alarming rate,
endangering the life of many atolls; coral, which was once a
mainstay of the region, is disappearing; nuclear trials are causing
havoc with nature.
I moved to
San
Pancho Mexico a few years ago, yet traveling through the United
States also convinced me further that our world is at great risk if
we continue to act irresponsibly. We must rise up and defend our
planet. With this in mind, I have decided to enter the fray: to
defend, with strength and compassion, the fragile ecological balance
of the planet.
I
believe in beauty and for several years I have been active as a
silversmith, creating jewelry with natural materials. Now, I also
decided to involve myself in defense of the natural world.
To do so, I have become the representative, in San Pancho, of a
company called
Solar
San Miguel International, dedicated to bringing solar and
wind-driven solutions to our everyday lives.
Prior to this, on my own, I have experimented with solar energy,
developing strategies to make it work for me, both in the South
Pacific and in Mexico.
My goal is, through community education, to open people’s
minds and hearts to solar and eolian (wind) energy, so that, as a
community, we can use the benefits of sustainable landscape
architecture designed and built with the best interest of the
environment in mind. By planning ahead and constructing and
landscaping environmentally responsible homes and other community
buildings we can begin to hold pollution and waste in check, slow
down the greenhouse effect, and respect biodiversity.
It is time that we get down to serious work, so that the
catastrophic scenarios that an increasing number of eminent
scientists are predicting for our future do not come to pass. "
We need to live consciously, preserve the beauty of our environment
by protecting
the earth for ourselves and the
future generations.
