Mission
Our mission is to create an integrated educational experience that
focuses on all areas of human development, including intellectual,
mental, social, intuition, artistic, kinetic). The ideal learning
experience aims to instill consciousness of self, others and the
universe; to
encourage human and community values; and to inspire children with a
“life-long love for learning”.

Objective
Because we, as parents, seek a school environment that reflects the
values within our own home and families, we created the “Escuela del
Mundo” as a viable alternative for preschool and primary students in our
community.
The school will offer a certified, structured curriculum (program) based
on the Montessori
Method integrated with programs in art,
environment, science and technology. The school principle is based
on a multidisciplinary approach to learning, thus offering an excellent
academic and social experience for young children of various ages and
cultures.

The Montessori Method
The Montessori method is an educational method
for children, based on theories of child development originated by
Italian educator Maria Montessori in the late 19th and early 20th
century. It is applied primarily in preschool and elementary school
settings, though some Montessori high schools exist.
The method is characterized by an emphasis on self-directed activity on
the part of the child and clinical observation on the part of the
teacher (often called a "director", "directress", or "guide"). It
stresses the importance of adapting the child's learning environment to
his developmental level, and of the role of physical activity in
absorbing academic concepts and practical skills.
Although there are many schools which use the name "Montessori," the
word itself is not recognized as a trademark, nor is it associated with
a single specific organization. Thus it is legally possible to use the
term "Montessori" without necessary adherence to a particular training
or teaching method. Nonetheless, schools identifying themselves as
"Montessori schools" generally apply this method in their teaching.

2009 Update
The school year 2008-2009 ended last July with another amazing End of
Year Presentation by our students and staff. The production of "Dream of
a Tomato/Sueno de Jitomate" left all of us with feelings of joy,
gratitude and a confirmation of the important work we do at Escuela del
Mundo - accomplishing our goal of encouraging young children to be
conscious investigators, sensitive to their environment and each other,
and to stimulate their interest in the arts, science and humanity.
The culmination event was a success! The biggest crowd we have ever had
and the awesome parents who organized the Gran Kermes brought us not
only delicious food but helped raise enough to cover the cost of the
event!
I would like to acknowledge the great work by our Elementary teachers
and students who presented an impressive Science Project in the
classroom -- a natural science exhibit including their Diaries of
Investigations ( cycles of plant life, earth composition, insects, etc),
Drawings and Photo presentation, Book and Writing Project --- all part
of the ongoing multidisciplinary approach practiced in our curriculum.
All of us were also honored by a visit from our new friends at CONAFOR (Comission
Nacional Forestral) who awarded 9 of our students First Place Awards and
Honorary Mention Certificates in the "DRAWING for the Trees" 2009
(National Competition) with the intention to promote better
understanding and appreciation of Mexico's flora and fauna.
Other Highlights of last school year:
Visit and Talk with Don Miguel Ruiz in our garden_a generous and
inspirational gift from one of our great Teachers!
Ceremony of our first-ever sixth grade Graduating Class, Libertad and
Eduardo!
Our group of Scholarship Students (children from needy local families)
grew to 6 new alumnos who received between 50% to 100% financial help.
As we said goodbye to last year, most of us were anxious and excited
about what was to come next! Just like in the student presentation, the
school itself awaited new growth as seeds were planted throughout the
cycle for the continued success of Escuela del Mundo.
This new cycle brings many new and exciting additions to our school. We
welcome Lourdes (Lulu)_ our Academic Program Coordinator and Elementary
Teacher. Welcome to Ingrid, our new Preschool Bilingual Teacher. Both
are Montessori Certified with more than 25 years of combined Montessori
training and practice. Also, this new cycle brings on board Jennifer who
will teach English Language to our elementary classes! Welcome to our
new bilingual Secretary, Veronica! And, with our arms wide open, we are
happy to welcome back our returning Staff, Teachers and Talleristas who
join us again this year! Rosa, Patty, Alma, Zayda, Dulce, Silvana,
Marciano, Monika, Ariel, Indira, Walter, Arbolita y Daniel!
This belated and much awaited newsletter is filled with photos
highlighting the July event, the graduation plus some pics from the
year. Come by our office anytime to find out more about our programs and
how YOU can sign up for our ongoing PARENT/VOLUNTEER CLUBS and
ACTIVITIES (check later for a calendar of Cultural Gatherings - we
invite all of you to participate and help raise much-needed funds for
our school!).
One of our big goals this year is the development of our SCHOLARSHIP
PROGRAM. Our waiting list is growing !! Each cycle we see greater
interests from local families with limited resources seeking an
opportunity at Escuela del Mundo. TO HELP SPONSOR A LOCAL STUDENT IN
NEED, CONTACT OUR OFFICE DIRECTLY. Your contribution (partial or full
sponsorship) permits more local needy families the option to experience
the valuable educational opportunity we offer at Escuela del Mundo.
